Wickwar had a full team when they played Stonehouse away on Friday night and it made a vast difference, despite not having played a league match for several weeks. They played the best football of the season with every player having a good game. They started off in whirlwind fashion and were three goals up within the first ten minutes. Dom scored a beauty after 5 minutes, Alex scored after 8 minutes and Rob scored on the 10th minute. Stonehouse pulled a goal back after 15 minutes but Rob on the 47th minute and Alex on the 66th minute put Wickwar 5-1 ahead. A late scrambled goal for Stonehouse on the 85th minute completed the scoring. Wickwar kept pressing and were unlucky not to go further ahead in the closing minutes. This was a great game to watch with some great passing and attacking play from Wickwar, with defence and midfield pulling their weight whenever it was needed. The season has now finished but all the players and Mark should be proud of their performance throughout the season, showing tremendous fighting spirit, even playing several matches with only 9 or 10 players. I understand that all the present players will be signing up for the coming season and several players from other clubs want to join us. This means we will be a stronger force with a bigger squad and I am looking forward to a great season for Wickwar under 16’s. With our present players, who have been playing together for the past 3 or 4 years; some of the team since under 9s; plus some additional players joining us, we should have a team that all opposition will find hard to beat! Well done to all for a great season, look forward to seeing you at the Frolics.
