A fantastic sunny morning up at Wickwar Playing Fields was matched with a fantastic game of football. Although this game was a friendly, both sides were very competitive from the start, Pucklechurch took an early lead 15 minutes into the match with a through ball to be fired in. Wickwar then started to dominate possession towards the end of the second half but could not equalise after a couple of missed chances from a hungry Captain James Gilvear, and some defiant defending by Felix Lambert and Phil Whittaker to keep the ball out of the Wickwar net. After half-time,Wickwar then carried on pushing forward early into the second half but couldn't seem to break through the Pucklechurch defence, although Mitchell Smith and Ben Hemmings had a few attempts. Then against the run of play, Pucklechurch increased their lead after another quick through ball left the Wickwar defence trailing the striker who slotted home. The game then became very even as both sides had spells of possession and were creating chances. Wickwar were playing some brilliant football, moving it about the pitch which started to frustrate the Pucklechurch players. As the end of the match approached, it was end to end football with a few hard tackles flying in which had to be stamped down by the referee. Wickwar's hard working midfield started to tire, and Pucklechurch then added one more to their collection with fast attacking flair, which ended Wickwar's hopes of a comeback. Well done to Pucklechurch on their win, and Wickwar also deserve some credit with their fantastic football and were unlucky not to get more from the game.
James Gilvear was Wickwar's Man of The Match
