Wickwar had a full squad of 15 to choose from and all boys were given decent run outs. The regular substitutions led to a somewhat disjointed performance, with Wanderers failing to play as well as they did in their previous friendly. We took the lead half way through the first half with a Matthew Jenkins strike which went in off the post. Early in the second half a surging run by Jake Hawkins was ended by an illegal challenge which allowed Matt to add his second with a confidently taken penalty which gave the keeper no chance. Cam pulled a goal back soon after as Rhys was left exposed as our visitors broke quickly. Matt Jenkins completed his second treble in a week with a deft finish as the ball came loose in the box. Jake Hawkins scored our fourth after he broke from the halfway line and finished well. Cam made the score look more respectable with a second goal right on full time.
All in all a good workout, with a number of things to be learnt, such as our midfield need to defend as well as attack, as well as the obvious point that a lot of the boys need to have the confidence to get the ball down and play rather than just belt it. We also need to play more as a team and pass to people in better positions! Special mention to Matthew Jenkins for a good all round performance, for Charlie Poole who looked extremely solid and to Jake Templeton who played very well in his first match on a full size pitch.
