Windsor Drive 1 - U12s 2

Not much of a spectacle, but at this stage of the season a win’s a win and beating our third place rivals is a huge step toward cementing our second place position in the league.  We bossed the first half and looked quite impressive at times.  Ferdinand de Carvalho particularly stood out as he dominated play at the back.

By his own high standards, Jack Knowler had a quiet game, but he still managed to get both of our goals.  The first was a crisp strike following good build up play involving Dan Allan and Jake Templeton.  The second a deflected effort following on from a corner induced goalmouth melee.  More impressive than either goal is the fact that Knowler now has twenty-one goals this season.  He got a bit of a battering for his trouble today, but that’s just something good players unfortunately have to get used to.  Keep your head up Jack and thirty plus goals is a realistic target come April.

On doctor's orders Jake Hawkins was absent so Templeton joined Declan McGettigan in the centre of midfield and both had good games.

Enzo Bavetta played solidly at left back and Ollie Graham did well supporting Knowler from midfield.

Drive got their goal (a scrappy affair and no mistake) five minutes from the end of a pretty turgid second period and this made for a nervy finish.  Oranges held out though and extended our unbeaten run for another week.  Realistically we should have banged in four or five today, but Drive battled on and successfully frustrated us.

McGettigan and de Carvalho ran him close, but for all round effort and some great combative play today’s Man of the Match was Jake Templeton.  Well done Jake!

We welcome Drive back to Wickwar next Sunday for our Wally Smith cup quarter final encounter.  A better performance will be necessary to ensure we progress to the semis and I’m sure the boys will all rise to the occasion.
