Football Frolics 2011

Despite some concerns about the weather on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, our day arrived and Saturday dawned with blue skies. Football Frolics was on us once again.

A day of football fun and record entries for this year’s event. Over 100 games of 5 a-side football had been planned for the afternoon with every slot in the programme from 12.00am to 5.30pm accounted for using six pitches on the King George V Playing Fields.

Hectic preparations in the morning with thoughts of rain clouds approaching, led into a very hectic afternoon with over 400 people attending. Thankfully the weather forecasters got it wrong and proud parents were able to see their sons and daughters enjoy football in fine sunshine. Tell us if we are wrong but the general opinion was that the afternoon was enjoyed by everyone attending. Over 70 Winners medals were presented for games played on the day and the Annual Presentations for Wickwar Wanderers FC teams were made for each player including the Manager’s Player, Most Improved Player and Player’s Player Awards for the 2010/2011 season.

A big thank you to everyone who helped throughout the day, too many to mention, because without this the event would not happen.

The Lucky Programme number was 081 and the holder of this programme can claim their £30 prize.

There are always the humorous moments during preparation and leading up to the day. For anyone who enters the tournament the entry form asks for the signature of the Team Captain to accept responsibility for the team in providing age details etc. One Captain of the ‘Ladies’ team who will remain anonymous signed the form…..Rosiexxx…Thank you Rosie. Despite what the picture shows, the winners of the Girl’s Division was ‘Girls Untied’.

Thank you everyone.
