In a game played on the bank holiday weekend, both teams were decimated by holidays, injuries and cricket. Wickwar were able to field just 11 players.
The game was end to end, competitive and played in good spirits. In a re-jigged line up Wickwar started with 4-4-2 and struggled to get hold of the ball. Possession was unusually poor and the ball was given away far too easily throughout the team, leading to a number of good opportunities for the home-side. Despite this chances were created, “sweeper-keeper” Lee Bindon played a long ball over the top which was expertly controlled by David Parslow and dragged just wide having got in behind. Max Minter also hit the underside of the bar from outside the area.
Second half was much better. Shape was changed to 4-3-3 and the standard of performance improved as Wickwar took control of the midfield. As legs tired the game became stretched leading to an end to end game in which both teams hit the woodwork, but on balance a draw was probably a fair reflection of the game.
