Senior Team Manager – New Role

Are you currently undertaking your coaching badges, or a coach looking for a new challenge? Would you be interested in managing a team that has had 4 promotions in the past 5 seasons with a hungry, committed squad with an average age of 20?

Wickwar Wanderers F.C are looking for a new manager to take the team forward from the beginning of the 2020 – 2021 season. After a highly successful 3 seasons, our current management team have decided to step down due to family commitments and as such we are looking for a new manager to take the helm.

About the Club

Wickwar Wanderers F.C are an F.A Standard Chartered club with a senior side and youth teams ranging from under 9s right through to under 18s. There has been football in the village going back as far as the 1890s, and the club is alive and well with a committee of volunteers supporting both the senior and junior set-ups.

The senior team are currently playing in the Stroud and District League Division 2 after 4 promotions in the past 5 seasons. The club was 2nd in the table and on course for another promotion push before Coronavirus brought the season to a close. In addition, they had reached the final of the Intermediate Section County Cup Final beating the previously unbeaten league leaders Chesterton 3-1 in the Semi-Final – and may still get the opportunity to play in the final when football does reassume next season.

The club has a big emphasis on youth development. Our current squad has an average age of just 20 most weeks, and 13 of the lads in a regular squad of 16 have come through the youth set-up. With age groups ranging down to under 9s we hope to carry this forward.

The New Manager

Our new manager will inherit a very healthy intact squad. Despite the change in regime, no players are planning to leave and are ready for a tilt at promotion again next season. Most players play every week and the squad picks itself, you will not spend your evenings chasing players!

Supporting the manager there is a committee of 7 players with a range of responsibilities. The role can be as much or as little as you want it to be, with a support infrastructure around you. There is a great atmosphere in the side, everyone comes back and drinks in the village pub and throughout the year we organise socials for birthdays, curry nights and comedy nights.

In return, the club will pay for your new training kit and if you wish to do so will financially support you with undertaking your coaching qualifications
