The Under 10’s played against their close rivals, Rodborough Pirates, in the Under 10’s Trophy final on Saturday, in what was a pulsating end-to-end and tense final — I don’t think either manager or parents had any finger nails left come the end!
The Pirates took the lead midway through the first half, when a long throw was allowed to bounce in the box and continued to loop over our keepers head. A shame, as they were playing so well, but the spirit of our boys is excellent and they bounced right back to score through Noah Day. Spurred on, the team continued to attack well, carving out some excellent chances, while at the same time pressing and defending superbly all over the pitch.
At full time the teams couldn’t be separated, so we headed into extra-time… and the game continued as it had left off, an end-to end affair with both teams having some great shots on goal. Our ever-excellent keeper was a rock though and kept us in the game on numerous occasions. And so it was into penalties we headed…
I have to say, our three penalty takers put there hands straight up — confident that they were going to score! And so they did, Ethan Benkenstein and Noah both banged their respective penalties, striking them decisively into the left corner — there was never any doubt. The game was won, when Ethan Walker-Cox saved both of the Pirates penalties!
A really great game, played in the right way, by two hard working and competitive teams. Well done to both.
